What's Your Reason? Beautiful Beaches in #SJTownsByTheBay

August 23, 2022

As part of our 500 Reasons to Discover Saint John & the Towns by the Bay Giveaway, we're featuring YOUR reasons for making #SJTownsByTheBay your bay-cation or stay-cation destination!

Our week six winner is Kathy Trainor, whose reason for exploring the region is experiencing the beautiful beaches:

Kathy shares:

One of the things I treasure most about the Saint John area is the beautiful beaches it has to offer. From the sprawling Saint John River, to the Bay of Fundy's highest tides in the world, to Rockwood Park's picturesque lakes, there are so many destinations to enjoy.

Growing up on the river, my family members were always avid boaters. Over the years we have encountered countless visitors who travelled here from other countries to experience the unmatched joy of the sailing the renowned Saint John River. Nowadays, I take the most pleasure in watching my children and grandchildren enjoy water activities such as swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and even fishing. I love that these activities are accessible to anyone seeking such adventure courtesy of Inside Out Nature Centre at Lily Lake. Check it out!

Some of our favourite spots to enjoy the breeze on a hot summer day are on the city's West Side. Saints Rest Beach at the Irving Nature Park is where we go to hunt for sea glass. My grandchildren also love climbing the rocks at McLaren's Beach. We've been lucky enough to spot porpoises there more than once this year. During low tide, it's always fun to search for water canons at Bayshore Beach. We are also so excited for the revitalization of Dominion Park! The kids get such a thrill at Timber Top Adventures.

Finally, it's a bit of a family tradition to head down to New River Beach to take in the annual sand sculpture competition.  We always bring our kites and never miss the chance to grab a delicious lunch at New River Beach Take Out.

There's something about being near the water with all the sights and smells that clears the mind and soothes the soul.  How lucky we are to live in Saint John!

Congratulations Kathy! We hope your prize winnings give you even more reasons to Discover Saint John & the Towns By The Bay.
