What's Your Reason? Patio Hopping in #SJTownsByTheBay

July 14, 2022

As part of our 500 Reasons to Discover Saint John & the Towns by the Bay Giveaway, we're featuring YOUR reasons for making #SJTownsByTheBay your bay-cation or stay-cation destination!

Our week one winner is Mary Kate Beckwith, a Saint John local who's favourite way to explore our region is to spend the day patio hopping:

Mary Kate shares:

"My husband and I were both born and raised in Saint John. We’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy many patio seasons in and around our hometown. Whether it’s enjoying a date night on the heated patio at Peppers Pub (where we can’t go without splitting an order of Money Bags), or meeting friends for some bacon-wrapped scallops and pita nachos at Grannan’s, it always recharges our batteries to sit outside and soak in the uptown atmosphere.

This year we have felt especially fortunate to once again engage in friendly chatter with cruise ship passengers who always comment on how much they too enjoy the charms of our port city. Though we are fans of Saint John’s signature foggy evenings (so we can sleep in comfort!), we always know where to find the sun when we crave it.

The Saint John Marina is a hidden gem just minutes from our own home. You never can tell who you might run into stepping off their boat for a cold one!

Though the charms of our city are abundant, my favourite thing about Saint John is the small town feel we’ve been able to maintain here. It’s impossible to go out for a night on the town without running into (often numerous) familiar faces. A meal on a patio is always a social event of sorts!"

Congratulations Mary Kate! We hope your prize winnings give you even more reasons to Discover Saint John & the Towns By The Bay.
