What's Your Reason? Family Trip to #SJTownsByTheBay

August 30, 2022

As part of our 500 Reasons to Discover Saint John & the Towns by the Bay Giveaway, we're featuring YOUR reasons for making #SJTownsByTheBay your bay-cation or stay-cation destination!

Our week seven winner is Peggy Domenie, a Nova Scotian planning a family trip down by the bay:

Peggy shares:

I would love to pack up the family and come visit the Saint John area!

When looking for a place to visit for family trips, we look for areas that include kid-friendly things to do - things like zoos, aquariums, beaches, amusement parks, or green spaces for walking/hiking/geocaching. We also love historical sites (museums, national historic sites and provincial parks) and an area that includes good food options and shopping.

Our initial attraction to the Saint John region was to reconnect with family and friends who live in the area. We have not seen them in quite a while, and would love to have the opportunity to do so. It is also an area that we have not explored before and we would like to see it.

I love that Saint John & the Towns by the Bay is within driving distance, so we can make our journey there into a road trip. There are so many outdoor things you can do with your family, and there are several beaches (like New River Beach Provincial Park) and parks that piqued our interest.

We have always wanted to start geocaching and noticed that Rockwood Park kits you out and starts you on your journey to find 10-12 caches; the Irving Nature Park also has geocaching. We would love to explore the sandstone caves at St. Martins, right on the Bay of Fundy - perfect for kayaking, or at low tide, exploring for seaglass. The Fundy Trail Parkway looks beautiful and the suspension bridge would be so fun to cross over.

We love making new memories together as a family - for us, it is not the place necessarily, but the people we are with and the experience we are having that makes a trip exciting. Discovering a new spot or an old one through fresh eyes is always an adventure and gives me the greatest joy. Our son's recent trip to an aquarium and delight at seeing a manta ray and sharks swimming in a huge tank will be something I will never forget. Kids are most excited with the smallest things, from catching their first fish to seeing a herd of bison. Even sitting down on a park bench watching the pigeons fight over sunflower seeds is a great memory for us.

With an abundance of family-friendly things to do, so many places to eat in and around Saint John that we are dying to try out, farmers markets to explore, and an international sculpture trail, I think this would be an ideal spot for families to travel!

Congratulations Peggy! We hope your prize winnings help you discover all that Saint John & the Towns By The Bay have to offer.
