On August 6, 1974, the first Bricklin SV-1 rolled off the assembly line at 245 Industrial Avenue in Saint John. The New Brunswick Museum is pleased to join the 50th anniversary recognition of this event by hosting a pop-up display of select Bricklin artifacts from the Museum’s collection at Saint John’s McAllister Place shopping center from August 1-4, 2024.
The display will feature the “Grey Ghost”, a 1972 concept car, as well as the 1,269th production Bricklin, a 1975 model in Safety Red.
The “Grey Ghost” is the original concept car created by Malcolm Bricklin and was used to attract potential investors. As such is the embodiment of Bricklin’s vision for a safe sports car, and an important piece of Canadian automobile history.
Manufactured in New Brunswick in 1974 and 1975, the Bricklin was a gull-wing-door sports car constructed with an acrylic body. The SV-1 (Safety Vehicle 1), its only model, far exceeded the safety standards of the time. 2,854 cars were manufactured before the company ceased operations in September 1975.
The New Brunswick Museum display at McAllister Place Shopping Center runs Thursday and Friday, August 1 and 2 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; Saturday, August 3 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; and Sunday, August 4 from noon to 5:00 pm.
