Hawk Identification Workshop with Todd Watts

August 21

Do you find raptor identification to be a challenge? You are not alone; hawks, falcons, harriers and the other members of this group test the skills of even experienced birders. Come learn from NB’s preeminent raptor expert, Todd Watts, Official Counter at the Greenlaw Mountain Hawk Watch, in this SJNC workshop at the Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre. The workshop will take place August 21 from 9:30-12:30PM.

The focus will be in-flight identification. Flight behaviour, plumage traits, wing and tail shape, as well as, general structure of thirteen “hawk” species will be explored. Reference material for future use will be suggested. Questions are encouraged. Bring a pen and paper for taking notes.

Cost: This workshop is FREE to attend; however, we will be accepting donations at the door that will go toward the Saint John Naturalists Club! (SJNC is a non-profit organization, therefore charitable tax receipts are not available).
