The Saint John Sea Belle Barbershop chorus will host a GUEST NIGHT on February 7th, 2023 at Portland United Church at 7PM.
Sea Belles are a chapter of Harmony Incorporated, an international organization of women a cappella singers specializing in the barbershop harmony style. Singers of all ages and musical backgrounds are encouraged to attend the kick off to a brand new year and be a part of something special in 2023 with our recently appointed director, Ellis Dingee. Ellis brings a combination of skills, experience and a youthful vibe to our group of members ranging from fresh out of school to empty nesters. Most of us came for the music but each of us stayed for reasons that go well beyond the singing. The great thing is someone new doesn’t need any experience or to be able to read music; just a willingness to learn. We will provide you with everything you need to know.
The chorus primarily sings in the barbershop harmony style which traces its musical roots back to the turn of the 20th century. Today, barbershop harmony singers keep things current by putting our own spin on contemporary songs as well as retaining some of those classics over the ages.
We were founded over 50 years ago bringing four-part a cappella harmony to the local community through regular performances and educational events. Being able to be part of helping our local community is also important to us as we give regularly to the North End Food and to Romero House dating back to the days when Caroline McNulty, founder of Romero House Soup Kitchen was one of our original members.
So come along on guest night. Those in Sea Belles represent a wide range of musical backgrounds, from novice to trained vocalists who have competed with the chorus in annual competitions both locally and internationally. We all started somewhere!
Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, February 7th and come see what we are all about!
