The First Murder in New Brunswick | A Talk by Andrew MacLean of Backyard History

April 26

Just two months after New Brunswick became a province, it recorded its first-ever murder. The accused was a woman named Nancy Mosely. Over time, the crime became shrouded in myth — especially the supposed murder weapon, a pitchfork.

Andrew MacLean of Backyard History has unearthed long-lost records that reveal the shocking true events of that day, the dramatic trial that followed, the surprising reason why the jury ruled the murder “self-defence,” and that the murder weapon was actually an ordinary table fork!
