SAINT JOHN, NB, October 15, 2019 – The Northeastern district of the Barbershop Harmony Society has selected Saint John for their 2020 District Contest and Convention.
Over 800 delegates will be visiting the city from October 23-25, 2020.
The Northeastern District is one of 17 Districts in the US and Canada that belong to the Barbershop Harmony Society headquartered in Nashville Tenn. The Society (founded in 1938), and its Districts, are dedicated to the preservation of the ‘Barbershop’ style of four-part acappella singing and the concept of ‘Everyone in Harmony’.
For the Saint John convention, organizers are expecting chapters, both choruses and quartets, from Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, Halifax, Dartmouth, Kentville, Sydney and St. John’s in addition to every New England state and New York.
“The judging team was enthralled with their visit to Saint John, by the beauty of the area, the warm, friendly, and welcoming embrace from the city, the hotels and the tourist bureau, and the facilities that we are using for the convention,” says Bob Bradley, District Vice President of Events, Northeastern District of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
“We look forward to being in Saint John in 2020 and offering Canadians a chance to hear the best quartets and choruses that the Northeastern District has to offer,” remarked Bradley.
This convention will generate approximately $285K for the local economy according to Victoria Clarke, Executive Director of Discover Saint John. “There is no tourism season in Saint John. We are winning business for the city year-round adding to the bottom-line of hotels, restaurants, retailers, taxi companies and more.”
